Uri helps Dawn with positive thought

Uri Geller is to help a Leicester teenager in her battle against cancer.
Geller – famous for spoon bending and his belief in the power of positive thought – was this week contacted by the family of 18-year-old Dawn Muirhead.
In his response, he has offered Dawn and her parents, Alan and Lesley, an invitation to his Berkshire home.
He has also pledged to pray for the stricken teenager and her distraught family.
Despite a three-year fight with leukaemia, Dawn, of Walshe Road, Leicester, has only months to find a donor for a bone marrow transplant which could save her life.
Alan said: “At this stage in the game, we are willing to leave no stone unturned.
“We are doing everything we can to make sure Dawn gets through this, which is why we contacted Uri Geller.
“If he can help in no matter what way, doing what he does best, then we will all be so grateful.”
Lesley, a former nurse, said: “Uri seems like a really genuine chap.
”I couldn’t believe it when he rang and said he would help. It was brilliant.”
The family’s best hope is to find a bone marrow match for Dawn through the Anthony Nolan Trust.
As previously reported in the Leicester Mercury, her brother James could have been the perfect match but he tragically died in a road accident aged five in 1990.
Mr Geller today told the Leicester Mercury he was not a miracle worker, but would do everything he could to help Dawn.
“The power of positive thought should not be underestimated,” he said.
“I have asked the family to send pictures of Dawn to me and I will be praying for her.
“I receive many e-mails from people in a similar situation and I reply to all of them and I do what I can. I can’t work miracles. I can only instil in people the positive energy they need to overcome their illness.”
* Dawn’s parents have organised their own bone marrow clinic for potential donors, which takes place at the City of Leicester School, on Wednesday, June 26, from noon until 7pm.
