Charity celebrates its special anniversary
A CHARITY celebrated its 30th anniversary with backing from celebrity psychic and spoon-bender Uri Geller.
The Retired Greyhound Trust celebrated its birthday last week with plans to work especially hard to encourage people to adopt retired greyhounds.
It was established in 1975, and since then has found homes for over 25,000 dogs nationwide.
The Walthamstow Stadium branch in Chingford has homed over 130 dogs, 38 in the last year.
It wants to hear from anyone who would like to provide a home for a dog, or help with dogs that have not yet been found places, and insists that greyhounds make good pets.
Head of the trust Ivor Stocker, said: “We have reached a significant milestone and have come a long way since the early days.
“But our mission remains the same, to help greyhounds find the loving homes they deserve and to overcome the misconceptions that many people hold about them.”
The local branch is seeking volunteers for dog walks and to assist with fundraising, including donations for a forthcoming raffle.
If you can help out or are interested in adopting a greyhound, call Barrie or Debbie Clegg on 8529 3286.
